Memorial services for Shirley Weatherly, a resident of Shell Knob, MO will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the chapel at Peterson Funeral Home 229 W Church St Aurora, MO 65605.
Shirley passed away December 6, 2018 at her home. Her son Greg lovingly cared for her the last 3 years of her life, similar to how he had cared for her and Larry in 2009 and 2010.  Shirley was born March 12, 1935 to Dean and Ethel Hale in Walnut Grove, MO.  She was raised most of her life in Buffalo, MO.  She was united in marriage to Larry Weatherly on Ground Hog’s Day, February 2, 1957 in Columbia, MO. He preceded her in death May 25, 2009 .
Shirley received a Master’s Degree in Home Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia.   She later received a Master’s Degree in School Administrations and was an elementary school principal.  Her love of learning and teaching children was evidenced and consummated in her role as mother to Cheri and husband Kent Woodson, Greg Weatherly, Vince Weatherly and Jeff Weatherly and grandmother to Reagan, Ryan, Cylina, Kyle, Trent, Nathan, Rachel, Trevor, Blake, Kate and Anne and great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren.  She made books come alive as she had her children and grandchildren enact roles such as Three Billy Goat Gruff or Bear’s in the Woods.
Shirley was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years she collected a large library of recipes that were tested and shared generously.  Shirley was an excellent card and board game player and she and Larry participated in many bridge and dinner club groups throughout their entire lives.  Lastly, Shirley was also an equestrian.  Horses were part of her life from the time she was a young girl in Buffalo until late in life.  Shirley and good friends Walter and Martha Lawson spent countless hours riding horses on the backroads and forests of southern Missouri.
She is survived by her children and their spouse; her brother Bill Hale and his wife Georgia and sister in law Jane Hale.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Annette Weatherly, a brother Bob Hale and her sister Louise Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Aurora FFA Chapter 305 W Prospect, Aurora, MO  65605.

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

Mother your memory is with us …
The whisper of the leaves with a walk in the woods.
The identification of birds at every turn
The smell of Rosemary Pork in the oven,
Mother lives inside the laughter as we recall her jokes.
She’s crystallized in every tear drop…
She’s the place we came from,
our first home.. She’s helped draw the map we travel,
I carry her with each memory,
For to be missed is a sign of a treasured life
