Ruth Lucille Dowell, age 97, of Aurora, Missouri passed away on March 8, 2018 at The Maples Health and Rehabilitation center in Springfield, Missouri. Ruth lived at The Maples for 7 years and moved there after being afflicted with TIA’s that kept her from living in her home.
She was born August 2, 1920, in Biggs, OK, the daughter of Charley and Nora (Pendergrass) McClelland.
Ruth was a good-hearted soul who loved to cook, sew - which included quilting and crochet, making garden, going to garage sales, and talking on the phone, if she didn’t have company. She always enjoyed time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughter who was the apple of her eye. In later years, she would answer to grandma, mom, Ruthie when at the nursing home. Always ready with a chuckle but don’t mess with her stuff as she knew when something was out of place an inch. Nursing staff called her the worst case of OCD they had ever seen!
On July 6, 1936, she married Elwood Dowell. Elwood preceded her in death on January 15, 1983 after celebrating 46 years of marriage.
Ruth is survived by her son, Joe Dowell and his wife, Judy, of Aurora; one grandchild, Lisa Crump of Springfield, MO, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; parents Charley and Nora McClelland, two sisters, Vivian McClelland and Myrtle Ward, and two brothers, Charles McClelland and Pete McClelland.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peterson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
The family would like to express Special Thanks to the staff of The Maples Health and Rehabilitation. The care and love shown to Ruth throughout the years was truly an amazing experience.
