Peterson Funeral Chapel
Maureen Wilkerson McKnight, 88, of Mt. Vernon, MO. passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 in her home.
She was born to Charles and Cleda Kincade Wilkerson on June 18, 1931 in Springfield, MO. She worked as a waitress for many years, drove a school bus for the State School for the Handicapped in the 1960's, worked as a Nutrition Specialist for the State of Missouri in the late 1950's and she worked as a Parking Control Officer ("Meter Maid") for the City of Springfield in the 1960's and 70's.
After she retired, she began making one-of-a-kind collector Steif-style Teddy Bears and sold them at shows and bazaars in Southwest Missouri and Northern Oklahoma. She also Presented programs at elementary schools and libraries on the history of the "Teddy Bear." She names each Teddy Bear she made and gave each a personality.
Maureen committed her life to her Savior and was confident in her salvation, She loved to tell her favorite verse, Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy E. Duncan and husband Ray of Mt. Vernon, MO.; 4 grandchildren, Brent Robb and wife, Lisa of Lebanon, MO., Eric Robb and wife, Jennifer of Fenton, MO., Aaron Robb and wife, Dana of Lafayette, N.J. and Kelly Moras and husband, Shylesh Moras of Boca Raton, FL.; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 adopted grandchildren, Chris Duncan and Stefanie Hunt and 4 adopted great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 23 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel.
