Joe Dahlman, 82, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in his home. He was born May 9, 1932 in rural Mt. Vernon to Art and Reathel (Johnson) Dahlman. He had an older brother, Leo.
Joe attended a rural one room school through 8th grade, and graduated as President of the class of 1950 at Mt. Vernon High School.
He was drafted during the Korean War and served honorably in the U.S. Army for 2 years, from 1953 to 1955.
Soon after his return, he married Kathryn Parker on August 25th, 1955 in Aurora where they lived for 2 years. Then in 1956 Joe and Kathryn bought their first farm outside of Mt. Vernon. There they built a home where they were blessed with 3 daughters. Later they bought more land and built a new house where they've lived for 47 years.
During their lives together they owned Dahlman Seeding Co., Spring River Turf Farm and their cattle farm.
Joe was a hard working, kind, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved the Lord, his family, the land and the U.S.A.
Many friends and family visited him through the years which he enjoyed, especially this past year.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathryn, their daughters, Penny, Rita (Larry) Moriondo and nancy (Dick) Bushman all of Mt. Vernon. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Liz, Joe, and Mark Moriondo and his fiance', Maranda and Grant, Kyle, Kathryn, Grace and Hannah Bushman.
He will be missed by his family who loved him dearly and surrounded him during the last few days.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Summit Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel with Hubert Conway and Kenny Epperson officiating. Burial will be on the family farm.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Summit Baptist Church.
