Janice Garner Matthews, 65, of Springfield passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Janice was born to Robert and Wilma (Cassy) Alderman on April 1, 1945 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She grew up an Army brat, living as far away as Machinato, Okinawa, Japan. She was raised Episcopalian attending St. John’s Church, Springfield, MO. Janice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had many friends and touched the hearts of everyone she met, leaving bonds that last a lifetime. She was beautiful inside and out. Janice was never happier, living out her final years with the love of her life, Joe Matthews. She will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to know her.
Survivors include her mother Wilma Cassy Cline of Aurora, MO; Janice’s Husband Joe Matthews of Springfield, MO; three daughters, Angela Trostel and husband Erik, Cora Ivey and Olivia Garner all of Springfield, MO; one step-son, Andrew Matthews; two brothers, Curt Alderman of Aurora, MO and Keith Alderman of Laguna Beach, CA; one sister, Kathleen Griesel of Winona, Minnesota; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many Nieces and Nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her father Robert Alderman, her maternal grandparents Charley and Roxie Cassy, her paternal grandparents Judson and Isabella Alderman, her cousin Belinda Cassy and her Nephew Jamie Garner.
We will honor her memory Friday, February 14 at 2:00 pm at Peterson Funeral Chapel, Aurora, Missouri. A private family burial will follow in Maple Park Cemetery.
