James M. Harris, 91, of rural Aurora passed away peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2019 at home with his wife and daughters by his side.
James was born June 9, 1927 at home on Flat Creek to Wiley and Ruth (Garner) Harris. On August 31, 1951 he was united in marriage to Laura Helen Johnson, she survives. Also surviving are their six daughters, Meta Sturgell (Auston) of Aurora, Marilyn Chambers (Kevin) of Monett, Jean Sturgell (Norman), Carol Craig (Jerry), Anita Carr (Mike) all of Cassville, Amy Jackson (Tim) of Marshfield; fifteen grandchildren, Tammy, Jason, Tracy, Justin, Kevin, Jennifer, Chet, Chad, Chance, Jared, Carissa, Skylan, Tristan, Shayden and Allyson; thirty-six great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; five siblings, Fanny, Janalee, Alice, Wayne and Wanda.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 3 siblings, Mary, Elmer and Chloe; 2 grandsons, Jeff Sturgell and Tyrell Sturgell and 1 great granddaughter.
James grew up on Flat Creek and was a lifelong farmer; he was a milk hauler, laborer during the preparation of Table Rock Lake and Dam, ran a sawmill, operated a feed mill in Aurora for Kent Feeds and a U.S. Army Veteran. James was well known for his love of gardening and sharing the produce with loved ones and friends. Depending on the season you visited, you went home with a variety of berries and/or vegetables; from strawberries to his wonderful tomatoes and if lucky his prize sweet potatoes.
Services will be held at Peterson Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Loyd Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Clio Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
