Peterson Funeral Chapel

William “Greg” Owens was born on December 19, 1960, in Aurora, MO.  He was the first born to Bonnie (Hubbard) Owens and Art Owens.  Greg resided in Aurora most of his life, except for a brief time when he lived in Springfield, MO and Jefferson City, MO.  He was a member of the Aurora High School Class of 1979.  He participated in choir and band during high school.  He continued his schooling at St. John’s School of Nursing, University of Phoenix, Walden University and Chamberlain University.  He obtained his Doctor of Nursing Practice Executive Leadership in October 2019.

Greg began working at the Aurora Community Hospital during high school and continued employment there for several years.  He was also employed by St. John’s (Mercy) hospital in Springfield, MO, Capital Region Hospital in Jefferson City, and was later a professor for several universities, including Southwest Baptist University (Mercy School of Nursing), Herzing University, Southern New Hampshire University and Chamberlain University.

Greg was a member of First Baptist Church, Springfield, MO.  He was saved at an early age and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing both the piano and organ for several churches.  Greg loved the Lord and he loved Southern Gospel Music. You could often find him playing music at his computer and singing along.

Greg was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, nurse, educator, and friend.  He had an infectious smile and a wonderful laugh that would brighten anyone’s day.  He loved his family, friends, colleagues, and students.  Greg was known as “Uncle Greg” to many children in the family.  He loved spoiling his own nephew and niece, along with his cousin’s children – just like they were his own.

Greg was called home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the age of 61.  He is survived by his mother, Bonnie of the home; one brother, Kent (Tammie) Owens, of Aurora; one nephew, Jeffrey, of Springfield; one niece, Tiara (Rusty) Haddock of Battlefield; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home in Aurora.  A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m.  In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made through the funeral home or on your own to “Donate Life America” or “Southwest Baptist University-Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences.”
