Gary Lee Elkins, of Cassville, MO. passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the age of 77.

He was born in Barry County near Crane, MO. on September 4, 1938 to parents, Clyde Oakley Elkins and Ruby Corienne (Hilton) Elkins.  Gary spent most of his adult life in and around the Aurora and Cassville area.

Gary is survived by three children, Cheryl Ann Curran, Darrell Lee Elkins and wife, Alice of Oklahoma and Kevin Estep of Arkansas; his sister, LaQuita Hall and husband, Fred of Springfield, MO.; and his brother, Caroll Elkins and wife Mary of Forbestown, CA.  Gary also had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Gary worked all his life in various positions, including driving a cab in Aurora and primarily working in the shoe factories in Marionville, Aurora and Cassville.  He was very accomplished at his job and management sent him to help open the new shoe factory in Cassville.  Management wanted to promote him, but he declined saying he wanted to stay on the line with his friends.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed visiting with the folks at the Jacques Brothers' Auto Repair in Cassville and he enjoyed staying in touch with his former son-in-law, Bill Curran and his wife, Connie, and seeing his great-granddaughter, Nevaeh and other family and friends.

After major surgery in September of 2014, Gary's health continued to decline.  He suffered multiple health issues, but he was always ready to joke with the staff in his doctor's office, the hospital and rehab center, the stores and offices he visited, and anyone he came into contact with.  He always called himself "a real cut-up" and enjoyed making others laugh.

The family wishes to thank Connie Curran for her very Compassionate assistance to Gary in the last months of his life.  Gary will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Maple Park Cemetery under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel.
