Peterson Funeral Chapel

            Elmer Preston Haley, 89, died Wednesday, November 7th after a short stay at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, MO.
            He leaves his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Horner) Haley; Dale Horner; his brother in law; Leslie Horner, his sister in law; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 4 great nieces, 4 great nephews, and many great friends.
            Elmer was born on February 10, 1929 in Verona, MO. As a young man, Elmer held many odd jobs during his youth to help his dad care for his mother – who was legally blind. Elmer ended up retiring from Mid-Am Dairy in Monett after 25 years of service.
            Elmer loved to sing and often would travel around with his friends called the “Haley Quartet” and sing at various churches around the area. He was a devoted Christian and always had a bible nearby to quote a verse as needed.
            Elmer also had a passion for old trucks – he and Dorothy had a blue 1953 Chevy truck that they refurbished and named “Old Blue”. They frequented many car shows over the years and Elmer accumulated quite the collection of trophies. He and Dorothy loved driving Old Blue in the various Christmas parades around the area with friends and family throwing candy out of the back.
            A visitation will take place Friday, November 9th at Peterson Funeral home in Aurora, MO at 12 p.m., followed by a service at 1 p.m. then burial at Maple Park Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial donations my be made to the Baptist Children's Home in care of the funeral home.
