Bettie Smith Sheller passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at sunset with her three daughters surrounding her bedside. She was fully aware of their love and their presence as she smiled and breathed her last breath.
She was born to James and Josephine Powers Fowler on October 10, 1923 in Springfield, MO. She was the youngest of 6 children, outliving all of them at the age of 91.
Her siblings were kathrine Fowler Malone, Richard Fowler, Merle Fowler Crocker, Charles Fowler and Rose Lee Fowler Miller. There was a sister Dorothy who passed away on her 2nd birthday.
Bettie married Lewis "Trooper" Smith on May 18, 1942. Lewis passed away on March 10, 1982, they were the parents of Sandy Smith Carr, Shirley Smith McCullick and Libby Smith LaGarce. Bettie leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Bettie and Lewis were sponsors of "Teen Town" on Saturday nights on the top floor of courthouse square in Aurora. For the next 15 years, Bettie enjoyed her family and friends plus working at WalMart in Monett and Aurora. Her long work record included 4 years at the License Bureau and 3 years at Montgomery Ward "Bettie's Catalog Sales" on Aurora Square. She was a charter member of the Moonflower Gardens Club which lasted 50 years. She also enjoyed being an Eastern Star as well as taking trips with her friends "Never a dull moment at her house" she liked to say.
Bettie married Robert Sheller on May 31, 1997. Their marriage was a match made in Heaven. With their children grown and gone, they had all the time in the world for each other. Bob passed away on August 18, 2005. Bettie spent her remaining years enjoying her children and their families, her friends and especially the ChaChaCha Red Hat society group. She often said "My life is full and my cup runneth over.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peterson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held in Spring River Cemetery, Verona.
