            Bertha Faye Newton, 76, of Aurora passed away in her home on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

​            She was born on April 22, 1941, the tenth of twelve children born to Virgil and Eliza Faye (Freisner) Owens.  Bertha was married to Lowell Newton on June 7, 1957.  Lowell and Bertha lived in Verona, Missouri on their farm where they raised six children.  Lowell and Bertha moved to Aurora in 1983 where they have resided for 34 years.  Bertha was an avid reader of the Bible and loved listening to gospel music.  Bertha enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow and play.  She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, baking and spending time with Lowell.

            Bertha was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Deborah Medlin, her parents; four brothers, Ilo, James (Everett), Dale and Arthur Owens; and one sister, Anna Mae Snyder.

            Bertha is survived by her husband, Lowell of Aurora; five children, Reitha Moreland and husband, Terry of Aurora, Connie Barnes and husband, Mike of Aurora, James (Jimmy) Newton and wife, Reichea of Verona, Pamela Wilson and husband, Eric of Aurora and Michael Newton and wife, Rhonda of Ozark; 15 grandchildren, Missie Lambert, Tracy Moreland, Jamie Newton, Cecil (Bubba) Newton, Melissa Newman, Guy Newton, Alisha Cox, Tara Emery, James (Justin) Newton, Eric Wilson Jr., Erin Newton, Brittni Hunter, Braden Newton, Logan Newton and Sarah Barnes; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren

            Bertha will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  Bertha was a loving, caring person and touched the lives of anyone she met.

​            Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Peterson Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow in Jones Chastain Cemetery near Highlanville, MO.

            Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

            In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens's Hospital.
